Prepositions

* Introduction 



A preposition is a short word usually placed before a noun or pronoun to show place,position,time and manner.

The preposition use to express the relationship between the two entities(objects)

Ex:- *The cat is on the chair.

The relationship between "the cat" and "the chair" is connected bu using the prepositions "on"

01.At
 -situations where we can use the prepositions .
        *the time
        *age
        *place
 Ex:- • At 5 o'clock (to express the time)
         •At school ,at the supermarket (to express the place)
         •At the age of 40(to express the age)

02.on
       *to express on a day/date
       *to indicate mode of transport 
       *to indicate position 

 Ex:- •On monday,on april 15th.
         •on a bicycle ,on hours back,on board a ship
         •on the ground 

-we use "on " for expressing time also
    *ontime- this means exactly at the time arranged,not before or after.
     Ex:- •began on time.

-we can use the prepositions "on"with the meaning of "about "or "concerning"
    Ex:-•he gave a speach on helth and pollution 

-we can use the preposition "on" for the purpose of something.
   Ex:-•she spends a lot of money on cloths.

03.BY
    Use for;-*time and period/date
                   *to indicate methods of transport 
                   *used with passive voice
                   *to express the meaning "near"or"by the side of"
      
      Ex:-• be at the station by 5 o'clock
             •finish the work by tuesday 
             •travel by bus
             •the cake was made by ma sister
             •he stood by me
           
04.In
  Use for;-*to indicate a place 
                 *expressions of time,meaning "within"
                 *to describe a state/condition

          Ex:-*in srilanka
                 *in town("in"is used with aplace or area which is enclosed or has boundaries another meaning for "inside")
                 *in a few minutes 
                 *in six months
                 * he is in good helth

05.SINCE
    Use for;-* use to express time.
                   *another meaning for till.
                   
     Ex:-•he has been ill since last monday 
            •I have lived in france since 1999
